Austin Spotlight: Springdale Farm

Standard

Well, I have been off the map for a while this summer!  We recently were invited to spend a month (yes, a MONTH) with my in-laws in Florida.  Yes, we are all still alive and no one was harmed.  In fact, we all had a great time!  Soon I’ll get around to posting about some of our adventures – hopefully before school starts, but lets get real, probably not.

ANYWHOOOOO…

In June, my mom came to visit for a weekend to attend the BlogHer Food Conference here in Austin.  She LOVED it!  To read about her many findings and adventures, visit her at Inside NanaBread’s Head here!!  Well, one of the really amaze-balls things she got to attend was a dinner held at Springdale Farm (which you can also read about)!  Afterwards, she came to visit again and decided the kids and I could NOT miss out on this East Austin gem.  Man, am I glad she did, because this place is GREAT and I’m HOOKED!!

Springdale Farms was created in 2009 by Glenn and Paula Foore on just under 5 acres in East Austin.  They grow over 75 varieties of vegetables year-round to sell in their super-cute farm stand (Open Wednesday and Saturday 9-1) and supply local restaurants!  A current list of what’s growing now as well as restaurants served by the farm can be found on their website.  The farm can also be booked for weddings, dinners, and private parties!

We parked on the street in front of the farm and had to pose for a photo by the entrance sign!  Jonah actually was happy to be there although you’d never know it from the picture…  ; )

The indoor farm-stand stands at the front in a tiny, beautiful white house.  The opening to the farm is just beyond with a white trellis.  The view as soon as you enter is amazing!

After this, we hit the farm stand to load up on goodies for salads and some Happy Water!  The veggies were delicious, especially when I made a cherry and heirloom tomato, cucumber and avocado salad with red wine garlic vinaigrette!!  Best lunch of the summer!!

I can’t wait to go back to see what they have now!  And sometime when we have a date night, we’re heading back to visit Eden East, a reservations only food trailer on the property that serves a weekly-changing, fresh, local menu on Fridays & Saturdays under a huge tree and white lights.  They also have brunch if you are interested! Check this place out, folks!  Unless you hate fresh, local, delicious food… then stay under your rock with your CheeseWhiz!

  1. I’m ready to go back and stock up on those heirloom tomatoes before they’re gone. They were amazing! If your hubs won’t go to Eden East with you for dinner under the trees, I’ll go!
